The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) administers the Chartered Proficiency Test, often known as the CA CPT for the Foundation course, Intermediate (IPCE), and Final CA examinations.

ICAI Exam:

The ICAI CA exam is conducted for aspirants to become chartered accountants in India. As per the University Grants Commission (UGC), the qualification of a CA is equivalent to a postgraduate degree. The examination is conducted at three different levels, depending on the CA courses. To be certified as a CA, candidates must pass all course levels. 

The CA course is divided into three levels. Below are the CA courses in order from first to third level:

  • CA basic course exam (four assignments)
  • CA Intermediate Exam (eight exams based on the new syllabus and eight exams based on the old syllabus)
  • CA final exam (eight exams based on the new syllabus and eight exams based on the old syllabus)

ICAI CA Admission Criteria 2023:

Applicants seeking admission to the CA program must meet the eligibility criteria for each course listed below:

CA Foundation Eligibility Criteria:

Candidates who have passed grade 12 or its equivalent before the Central or State Board of Education are eligible. In addition, candidates who:

  • Are registered with the Board of Studies by June 30 of the examination year,
  • Transferred to the CA Foundation course with the ICAI Board of studies by September 7 of the examination year.

CA Intermediate Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates who have passed the Foundation examination or its equivalent are eligible for admission.
  • Candidates who have registered for a previous Intermediate examination as per paragraph 2 or 2A of Schedule B or for a Professional Education (Course- II), a Professional Competence Course(PCC), and a course converted to an Intermediate (IPC) Course/ Accounting Technician Course (ATC) are admitted.
  • Applicants who have completed undergraduate or postgraduate studies in any course from a recognized institute in India are also eligible.

Ca Final Admission Criteria:

Candidates who have passed the Intermediate examination or the vocational examination – II /PCC/IPCC – are eligible to apply for the Final examination.

  • For PCC students – The candidate must be in the last six months of their education, including any excess leave, and must have completed three and a half years on or before April 30 of the exam year.
  • For IPCC Intermediate students – The candidate must be in the last six months of their education, including any excess leave, and must have completed 3 years on or before April 30 of the exam year.
  • For students who converted from PE-II to PCC and then to IPCC – The candidate must be in the last twelve months of training, including any excess leave, and must have completed 3½ years of articles on or before October 31 of the examination year.
  • Candidates who have dropped out of training are advised to re-apply for the remainder of the training period.

ICAI CA Examination process:

The ICAI CA exam process includes registering online, downloading the admission card, and appearing for the exam. The results of the CA are announced for the candidates depending on the level. Below is a brief overview of the exam process at CA.

Step 1: Register for the course CA:

Candidates need to register for the course on the ICAI website. Novice candidates need to register for the CA basic course. Those who have already registered can register again for the basic course or intermediate, or final course using the same registration details.

Step 2: Download ICAI CA Admission Card:

The CA admission card for each course level is available online approximately one month before the exam date. Candidates must download their ICAI CA admission cards to appear for the exams.

Step 3: Register for the CA exams:

The CA exams for the undergraduate, intermediate, and graduate courses are conducted semi-annually at designated exam centers in online mode. The exam centers are different for all three courses.

Step 4: Download the CA result and register for the next level:

Foundation, Intermediate, and Final CA results are out about a month after the exam. Students who pass the Foundation course must take the Intermediate course, and students who pass the Intermediate course must take the Final course. The ICAI certifies those who pass the CA Final exam as professional CAs.

CA Group 2 Exam Date 2023:

The Group II exams will be held on May 12, 14, 16, and 18, 2023.

CA Foundation Next Exam Date 2023:

The CA Foundation test will take place in June 2023, according to the ICAI. CA Foundation exam 2023 will take place from June 24 to 30, 2023.

CA Group 1 Exam Date 2023:

Group-I Intermediate Examinations will be held on May 3, 6, 8, and 10.

FAQs – CA Exam Update

1. Has 2022 exams been Cancelled?

The dates for the CA November 2022 tests have been postponed by ICAI. The dates of the ICAI CA November 2022 exams are December 14, 16, 18, and 20.

2. Are CA exams going on?

ICAI CA Foundation, Intermediate, and Final exams will be held in May and June 2023. Registration began on February 3, and CA exam forms must have been submitted by February 24, 2023.

3. Is There Any Chance Of CA Exam Postponed?

Because of the overlap with the dates of the CBSE/ICSE exams, the ICAI has postponed the CA Foundation exams, which were scheduled to take place on May 22. The new dates are June 24, 26, 28, and 30 of 2023.

4. Will CA Exams Happen In May Or June 2023?

ICAI will conduct CA Final and CA Intermediate exams in May 2023, while CA Foundation exams will be held in June 2023.
