The ICAI has recently recommended a new education and training program to begin in June 2022.
As part of the updated educational curriculum, changes have been made to the three CA course levels and the three years of practical training. The ICAI updated the CA course in 2017,and a new syllabus for the CA Foundation, CA Intermediate, and CA Final had been introduced.
The new CA syllabus for 2023 combines some tasks from all three levels and deletes others. The new model also shortens the duration of the CA article ship from three to two years.
Currently, there are no guidelines on how many times one can take the CA basic course. So students can attempt as many as they like. In addition, the validity of the CA Foundation registration can be extended several times.
However, under the proposed education and training plan, children can enroll after the 10th year, and their registration with the CA Foundation is valid for four years.
After these four years, it’ll also no longer be possible for students to extend their basic enrollment.
In addition, there will no longer be a cut-off date for enrolment in the CA Foundation, such as 1 January or 1 July. This allows ICAI to hold three examinations per year.
Currently, the syllabus for the CA Foundation includes 6 subjects and 4 assignments. The subjects of Business Correspondence and Reporting and Business and Commercial Knowledge have been dropped from the new program by the ICAI.
The examination scheme of the CA Foundation has also been adjusted by the ICAI. Under the new system, students need to score 50% of the possible marks to pass the CA Foundation tests, and any incorrect MCQ answer will result in a deduction of 25 marks.
