NEET UG Counselling Process
NEET counselling is the most important part after clearing the exam. Candidates will get admission to medical colleges through NEET counselling. The seats will be allotted on the basis of the All-India Rank of the candidate and their choice of college and course.
The minimum qualifying cut-off marks required for participating in NEET UG counselling. In NEET 2023, AIQ has 15% of seats, while 85% are reserved for state-quota seats, central universities/deemed institutes, and ESIC & AFMS colleges. There are three rounds in NEET counselling, including a mop-up round.
NEET counselling will be conducted online and offline. For online counselling, candidates are required to fill out the application form, and for offline participation, candidates need to contact the respective state authorities and venue committee.

Round 1 Seat Allotment
- Free- Exit; If a candidate is not interested in taking admission into the allotted institute, they can be eligible for round 2, and can exit without losing the security deposit amount.
- After the seat allotment, candidates are required to report to the allotted institute and complete the admission process.
- After round 1, new candidates and free exit candidates are eligible for fresh registration, and registered candidates are not required to register again for the counselling.
Round 2 Seat Allotment
- Exit with Forfeiture – Candidates who wish to exit after seat allotment in the second round, can exit with forfeiture. In this case, you will be losing the security deposit amount and will have to choose the option within a given time.
- Allotted candidates have to report to the assigned institute and complete the admission process.
Please note that candidates who have been allotted seats in round 2, are not eligible to leave or surrender their seats. Similarly, these candidates will not be allowed to participate in state counselling.
Mop-up Round
- Candidates who exited rounds 1 and 2 are not required to register for mop-up counselling.
- Candidates are not required to register again for the mop-up round for those who did not get a seat in rounds 1 and 2.
- But all candidates have to fill in fresh choices/colleges in this mop-up round for the seat allotment.
- Central/deemed universities will conduct the vacancy round of the final round. No registration is required for this round.
